Tay Rail Bridge Disaster Anniversary

Today is the 130th anniversary (December 28, 1879) of the Tay Rail Bridge Disaster. Designed by Sir Thomas Bouch (who received his knighthood for the bridge), it was the longest bridge in the world at the time and took around six hundred workers six years to build. The centre section of the bridge collapsed during a violent storm while a train was passing over it, taking with it a train that was running on its single track. All seventy-five lives were lost.

Bamburgh Castle

I paid a visit to the Northumberland coast at the beginning of the month after having to get up early to drop someone off at Edinburgh Airport for a 7am flight. Seeing as I would have 2 hours until sunrise, I headed to Bamburgh Castle for my first visit to this location.

Dundee West End Fireworks

As some of you may know, I entered one of the images I took of the fireworks at the Dundee West End Christmas Lights switch-on recently and was delighted to hear a couple of weeks later that I had won! My prize was a £50 voucher for Jessops!
